Safety Program

Once every Trimester is Water Safety Week, in which we teach water safety and rescue skills to all students. Skills include jumping in the water with clothes on and getting out unassisted, reach-and-throw don’t go, floats in all positions and a review of all water safety rules and emergency number 911. Safety for our Participants and our instructors is our #1 priority. We emphasize safety in all aspects of our program. Our program has had a great deal of positive feedback from parents regarding the skills which were learned and subsequently put to use in emergency situations.

Drowning is the #1 cause of childhood accidental death under the age of 5 years old in the Western States. We strive to help drastically reduce these horrible statistics.

Weekly visits to the pool will instill respect and safety skills when they are in or around any body of water and add to the Layers of Protection against drownings.

Mandatory Safety Tips

– Use these “Layers of Protection” to insure drowning prevention.

1. CONTINUOUS SUPERVISION – Never leave your child unattended around any body of water for any reason – this is the BEST way to prevent drownings.

2. FENCE YOUR POOL AND SPA – Fences and approved safety latches help to buy time if a child is left unattended for a short period of time.

3. SWIMMING LESSONS – Swimming lessons will buy time if a child breaks through the primary “layers of protection”

4. CPR & FIRST AID – Know CPR and First Aid if supervision and layers of protection are breached. This knowledge is also helpful for many other emergency situations.

In 1998, we created our own Aquatic Safety Awareness Program (ASAP) as a non-profit organization. We implemented  it to educate parents and students in an effort to enhance water safety in and around all bodies of water. Our instructors visit schools, grades K thru 2, each year around the SCV to teach water safety tips to the children when they around any body of water. Let us know if you would like us in your preschool or classroom.  We are a member of the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, the Orange County Drowning Prevention Network, the Swim for Life Foundation and Liaisons with the United States Swim School Association (USSSA) and the World Aquatic Baby Congress (WABC).

Note: Please check with your doctor and get his or her approval before you begin any new fitness program to be sure it is suited for your needs. If you would like to make a donation in service, product or dollars, let us know.  We have an annual silent auction and other fundraising and water safety awareness events and expos, and we would love to acknowledge your business in our program.

Remember, the only 100% preventative measure against a childhood drowning is the constant visual supervision from a qualified adult.

Swim Lessons for Children are crucial!

Our 3 year old son has been taking swimming lessons at Academy Swim Club for 2 years, yesterday it payed off when he accidentally fell fully clothed into a man made lake, he was able to right himself, keep his head above water, and head back to the dock wall. He was completely calm until he was out of the water. Thank you Academy Swim Club!!
